Animal Rescue Stories that Teach & Inspire

Unleashed- Memories of a Career in Animal Control is an overview of Norma Haskins career in Animal Control which stretched over 34 years. Her accomplishments are many and her work to educate others in her chosen field are lengthy. But the basic part of this book is 31 short stories about animals she has rescued or tried to rescue. Some of the stories include the story of Jake the Poster Dog, who came to her with a serious injury to his tendon in his back leg. The surgery required to fix his leg was way beyond what her tiny budget could afford. She tells how she managed to get him all fixed up and into a great home.

She also tells about Winky who was a wonderful large orange and white cat who came to her with a badly infected eyeball which had to be removed. Then there was the animal collector who died and she and her assistants removed 164 animals from his home, including a 14’ boa constrictor and over 100 rats. There was one about a horse that had fallen into a swamp and was almost totally submerged when found and a story about a disturbed person who was removed from his home with the aid of tear gas and her efforts to rescue 5 very large dogs from the home.

A few of her stories end sadly and the reader should be forewarned. But in adding these stories she hopes to educate people what life is like in the world of animal control. Sometimes things don’t go as planned and sometimes animals die.

Overall the author hopes readers will enjoy her stories and learn from them.
